Brushware is an informal, brush-style script design. The typeface is a connecting script. Because it simulates a sign writer’s brush strokes, the font’s letterforms have visible contrast, and they are all sloped to the right. Brushware is equipped with several OpenType features that make text set in the font look more lively and spontaneous. For instance, there are ligatures for the letter nominations “fr”, “fs”, “jj”, “oo”, “or”, “os”, “ot”, and “tt” – in addition to the typical f-ligatures. These ensure the flow of the brush from one letter to another looks authentic – like the word the pair is in was written by a person. Brushware also has swash alternates for “g”, “j”, “q”, “t”, “y”, and “z”, as well as three Stylistic Sets. Stylistic Set 1 contains alternate forms for all 26 caps, plus capital letters with “accents” or diacritical marks. Stylistic Set 2 offers another form of the “E”, while Stylistic Set 3 has variants for “b”, “d”, “f”, “g”, “h”, “j”, “k”, “l”, “y”, and “z”. Another OpenType feature allows users to substitute oldstyle figures into their texts.
